Chapel Hill Boys, Lithia Springs Girls Win State Track Championships

The Lithia Springs girls track and field team and Chapel Hill boys track and field team brought home state championship trophies last weekend.

For the Lions, the state championship was their first in program history.

Lithia finished with 58 points at the meet atLithia Springs Girls Track Team Grisham Stadium in Carrollton to claim the championship ahead of second place Harris County’s 56.

Senior Destiny Jenkins won a state title in the 200-meter run and finished as state runner-up in the 100. Teammate Taylor Daniels won a state title in the 300-meter hurdles.

Lithia also had three relay teams that finished in the top three.

Chapel Hill’s boys claimed their first state championship since 2008 and third title in program history with a commanding win. The Panthers finished with 70 points, well ahead of second place Heritage’s 54.

Chapel Hill was paced by its 400 and 800 relay teams, which took first place. The team’s 1,600 relay finished second.

Among individual performances, KyDen Mays took the silver in the high jump, while Cairo Hayes finished second in the pole vault event.

Lithia’s boys had two individual state champions. Senior Jayvian McDowell won the long jump, while senior Alex Henry took the state title in the shot put with a new school record of 60 feet, 1.25 inches.

The Alexander girls had two gold medal winners at the Class 6A meet at Barron Stadium in Rome. Aseye Srigboh won the high jump while teammate Alisa Gordon took first in the triple jump.

New Manchester’s Nicolas Crosswhite won the state championship in the triple jump.
